The beginning of the year is a great time to think about what you want to change about yourself and about your company. Few of us go beyond health, fitness and career-related resolutions, but maybe this year you can start thinking on a grander scale and focus on improving your e-business! Here are some ideas to help you do just that.
1. Clean up your product descriptions
If you’ve had an e-commerce site for a few years now, chances are your product descriptions do not follow a cohesive format. Improving your product descriptions should be one of the biggest things you do this year, as they are highly relevant to ranking high in search results. Trust us, enhancing your product pages is well worth it!
2. Reboot your social media plan
Does your social strategy fall by the wayside whenever things get overwhelming with your company? While you may not be noticing the difference, your consumers are. People now tend to favour companies that have a strong brand identity and presence on social media. Having an abandoned Facebook account or one that infrequently posts with little or no purpose does not look professional and can be off-putting to buyers.
3. Set realistic goals
Yes, we all want to be millionaires by Q2, but are your big ideas feasible? Having a strong and well-thought-out plan of action that will get you from point A to point B is a necessity, as many things can change without notice. Before you make lofty goals, be sure to sit down with all the relevant people to evaluate the time the goal will take to complete. Determine a time when you can brief each other about new developments, roadblocks, and share advice between teams, so everyone is involved and nothing slips through the cracks!
4. Get to know your customers
Do you have customers from all over the world? Perhaps they live in a place like, say Montreal, where there are two sets of predominant languages? By getting to know your customers, you will be able to segment information that’s relevant to them, i.e. pricing, content, and local jargon. What’s more, if you segment beyond your site, such as through newsletters, you’ll be able to deliver location and language-specific information, which is a great way of increasing open rates and traffic on your website.
5. Take a step back
The most important is to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of daily life and meditate on why you took this career path in the first place. Do you still have the same values as you did? Are there things you’d like to change? Bringing these questions to light are a great way to reboot your inspirations for the year to come.
